A prominent Indonesian politician, known only as Arifinto, has quit after he was allegedly spotted looking at pornography on a computer during a session in parliament.
A member of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Arifinto has apparently said that the image was sent to him in an email. House deputy speaker Priyo Budi Santoso welcomed Arifinto’s resignation. Arifinto has also been ordered to recite the entire Koran at least once, cover to cover, within thirty days.
Indonesia is the world’s most populous Muslim nation and pornography is tabboo. Nevertheless, in recent months there have been a number of high-profile incidents in which the public has been forced to acknowledge the presence of pornography, particularly online.
