Thousands of Americans have suffered the nightmare of foreclosure in recent years. But one couple from Collier County, Florida have turned the tables and foreclosed on the bank.
Warren and Maureen Nyerges bought their home outright a few years ago. They paid cash, with no mortgage. But that didn’t stop Bank of America foreclosing on them. After a year and a half legal nightmare, Warren and Maureen Nyerges managed to win out, and Bank of America was ordered to pay their legal fees. But after five months, the bank hadn’t paid up. So Warren and Maureen Nyerges foreclosed on them.
The couple did everything by the book, and showed up at the branch with a team ready to seize assets in order to satisfy the debt. After some discussions, the bank manager was able to find a way to cut a cheque to cover the costs owed.
This is far from the only example of a family suffering after a bank’s mistakes, but it does seem to be the first time that a bank has been the victim of its own rules. Perhaps people across America will take heart and start turning the tables on banks, which after all seems to be the only language that those in charge seem to understand.
