Police rushed to a remote Liberty County farm yesterday, expecting to find up to 30 dismembered bodies. The tip-off they received was that the victims were all children. But after hours of searching, they came up empty-handed. Accepting now that there is no crime scene, Texas police are turning to the question of who called in the tip, and why.
It’s believed that the tip-off came from a woman who claimed to be psychic. If that’s the case, one has to wonder whether the police should have taken a little more time to investigate the claims before committing resources to the project. It is sometimes claimed that psychics have a decent track record when it comes to helping law enforcement. An examination of the facts does not support this view: there are no examples of psychics actually, materially advancing a police investigation other than through sheer luck, anywhere in the world.
A local man, Joe Bankson, has reportedly claimed that he knows nothing about any bodies. He is said to have told reporters that his daughter’s boyfriend cut himself recently, which might explain any traces of blood at the property. And it seems the police believe him, because they are now investigating the person who called in the ‘psychic’ false report.
