The Bahrain Grand Prix will not be reinstated on this year’s Formula One calendar, following condemnation of the decision to stage the race while the country is still experiencing demonstrations and government-backed violence against citizens.
The race in Bahrain was supposed to take place in March, but was cancelled when the Bahrain government started killing protesters. Last week, Formula One’s bosses decided to reschedule the race for October than abandoning it altogether, but there was a furious reaction from many fans as well as some people working in the sport.
It has now been accepted that the race can’t go ahead. The circuit’s owners have said that they understand the decision, and it sounds like their aim now is to ensure that the 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix can take place next March as scheduled.
