RIP? Is Tom Kenny, voice of Spongebob Squarepants, really dead?

Tom Kenny, one of the most prolific voiceover artists in America and the man behind Spongebob Squarepants, has reportedly died. Twitter users are claiming that the 48-year-old died at some point in the past 24 hours.

Wait, “Twitter users are claiming”? Would these be the same Twitter users who claimed that Johnny Depp and Bill Cosby died last month? It turns out that there’s no official confirmation that Tom Kenny has died at all, in which case we might be best advised to be sceptical.

However, this is a great excuse to remind ourselves of Tom Kenny’s general awesomeness. Kenny has starred in some of the greatest animations of recent years, including not only Spongebob Squarepants but also Rocco’s Modern Life, CatDog, The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory, 2 Stupid Dogs, Cow and Chicken, I Am Weasel, Futurama, Johnny Bravo and Scooby Doo. Film work has included Transformers and Porco Rosso. Phew! What will happen to the animation industry if these dark rumours of his death are true?
