The Madeleine McCann story has taken another of its occasional twists today, with the news that DNA tests are being carried out on a child spotted in an Indian market. Madeleine’s parents are awaiting the results of the test, which could take a few days.
It’s believed that a British tourist spotted the child and felt that she had a strong resemblance to Madeleine McCann. Madeleine vanished in 2007 during a family holiday in Portugal and would be around 8 years old now. It’s quite hard to see how a tourist in India could be so sure that a little girl spotted in a market is Madeleine, but the claims seem to be being taken seriously.
Although some excitable types have claimed that Madeleine McCann is on the verge of being discovered, such claims should be taken with a pinch of salt.
The McCanns have been the subjects of much scrutiny in recent years. Some people have accused Gerry and Kate McCann of being involved in their daughter’s disappearance, a claim that the couple strongly deny. There have been reported sightings of the girl before, but so far none of them have led to anything. Will this sighting in India be any different?
