About that Louise Mensch email from David Jones ‘investigative journalists’…

There’s growing interest in the identity of an ‘investigative journalist’ who wrote to Tory MP Louise Mensch to ask about claims she had taken drugs in her past. With Mensch having rather successfully swatted away the email’s allegations, public interest has turned to the identity of ‘David Jones’ and his motives for digging around in Mensch’s past.

There are claims that the email was allegedly copied to Tory Chief Whip Patrick McLoughlin MP and the Chair of the Conservative Party. Copying an email isn’t exactly difficult and can be done without the consent of those to whom it is copied. Nevertheless, this curious claim has led some to speculate as to who might be interested in dragging Louise Mensch’s name through the mud.

Mensch last week made a few enemies for herself. She was quite combative when Rupert and James Murdoch appeared before MP’s, and she also got embroiled in a row with Piers Morgan after she made some comments about him that she subsequently retracted. No-one is suggesting that any of those individuals are in any way linked to this ‘David Jones’ chap.

A lot of people are trying to identify David Jones tonight. A quick Google search turns up a guy who is linked to the Daily Mail, but there’s nothing to suggest that it’s the same person. Overall, this has all the markings of a classic media whodunnit, and it will be interesting to see how the plot inevitably unravels as we find out who has been gunning for Louise Mensch.
