London riots

Huge fire in Croydon as police fear new riots in Leeds after shooting, man shot in face

There’s a huge fire in Croydon tonight. It’s not clear what building is ablaze, but here’s a picture showing something huge and orange going up in flames. The situation in Croydon seems to have deteriorated quite rapidly over the past half hour. I just saw a lot of police vans with sirens screaming, heading in that direction.

Edit: The building in Croydon is at Reeves Corner, something of an icon in the area.

Meanwhile, following reports of violence in Birmingham, there are now reports of tense scenes in Leeds. Up to 100 youths are said to be gathered in the city centre and Chapeltown areas and, although there’s no major violence so far, there is a tense atmosphere. There were unconfirmed reports of gunfire earlier, but overall the situation is said to be quite calm at the moment. Still, worrying times.

The situation in Leeds is believed to have occurred after a man was shot in the face. I want to stress that this isn’t confirmed. There’s no information about whether the man is alive or dead, or even if the incident happened at all. Things are changing so fast that all we can do is report plausible rumours and urge caution.

  2. Croydon fire is at Reeves Corner furniture store. Fairly downmarket shopping area, uncomfortably close to many terraced houses.

  3. Unconfirmed reports like this don’t help the situation and the innocents caught up in all this.

  4. Croydon Credit Union burned down as well. It was located behind the Reeves Corner furniture store.

  7. It is House of Reeves, a large furniture store, owned by Tony Reeves.

  8. This is not rioting it is just cold calculated civil disorder fulled by feral youths who are just plain bored or dare I say it high on drugs, Color does not come into it and neither the wrongful shooting of an innocent ( or are we no longer declared innocent until proved beyond doubt other wise ) man in the suburbs of London.

The damage done is just sheer vandalism innocent people have lost their homes, cars and businesses. I think now that Parliament has been recalled the army ( what little of them is left ) should be mobilized along side the police and introduce Marshal Law in areas effected with a readiness to move around the country as the riots seem to and are spreading. And deal swiftly to contain events before any further rioting and subsequent damage, theft, loss and injury occurs.

And before I get mindless foul comments I do know what I am talking about I have been a social worker with attachment to the probation services for 25 years of my life..
