Gaddafi buried at dawn in secret desert grave

Former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has been buried. The National Transitional Council (NTC) announced that a ceremony took place at a secret location in the desert at dawn on Tuesday.

For the past few days, the body of Gaddafi has been on display in Misrata, where thousands of Libyans have visited to see for themselves that their former ruler is truly dead. There was speculation about where he might be buried, with reports that he wished to be buried in Sirte.

But he has now been buried at an undisclosed location along with his son Mutassim and a former aide. Local tribesmen said prayers during the ceremony. An investigation has been launched into the circumstances of his death, amid claims that he was executed after his capture.
