A train has collided with an oil tanker near Malaysia’s Kota Kinabalu airport, causing a hue explosion. The accident happened at around 6pm local time at the Jalan Kepayan-Jalan Lintas junction. There are no reports of fatalities so far, although video of the accident and this photo suggest it would be a miracle if no-one was killed.

A thick column of smoke can now be seen rising from the scene of the accident and rescue teams are on their way. Roads in the area have been closed due to visibility problems caused by the smoke. There are no reports so far as to whether the Kota Kinabalu airport’s services are affected.
The accident happened just after office hours finished, raising fears that there could have been many people onboard. The fire is still burning, however, and it might be some time before it’s clear whether the train involved in the accident was indeed packed with commuters.
