Samantha Zucker claims she was arrested in New York for not having ID

A 20-year-old student has claimed she was arrested in New York’s Riverside Park because she didn’t have any ID with her. Samantha Zucker says she was held for 36 hours before eventually having her ticket dismissed almost instantly once it came before a judge.

At a time when the behaviour of American police officers is in the spotlight more than ever, Samantha Zucker’s story is sobering. She says she and a friend were in the park after dark to look at the river, but that they were told by police that they would be booked for trespassing. Her friend was allowed to go when he showed his ID, but Zucker’s ID was back at her hotel.

Samantha Zucker says that other officers expressed shock at the way she was being treated, but she’s critical of the fact that none of them seemed to step in and help her. It’s not clear whether she is taking any action against the police force over the experience.

  1. Most ridiculous! this kind of thing goes on everyday in some city. False arrest is a violation of the 5th amendment
I too, was falsely arrested, but my ordeal was much worse. I was handcuff, chained (hands and waist) shackled at feet with chains, and paraded all around a correctional factalty, accused of assaulting someone with a gun, which is a lie. Never saw the guy face to face or vice verses. No one saw me carry out this charged, his word against mines which I haven’t had a right to say. I am going to sue the bastards if it is the last thing I ever do. I am a 75 year old lady..

  2. They tried to make it illegal to walk public beaches in New Jersey at night but couldn’t because they accept Federal funds. It was challenged in court and the people won.
