Amazon has launched its much-anticipated Kindle lending library, offering the chance for Prime members to borrow thousands of books for free. Users will only be able to borrow one book at a time, but there will be no due dates and the number of titles available is expected to increase over time.
Popular titles available in the first wave of the lending library include Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games and Moneyball by Michael Lewis. More than 100 former New York Times bestsellers are included.
The lending library scheme is only available for Amazon Prime members, and only for those with a Kindle. The scheme is the latest part of Amazon’s huge push to get more people to start using e-readers such as the Kindle, and is expected to significantly increase uptake of Amazon’s Prime subscription service.
