A 3-year-old New Zealand girl has survived home alone for three days after her mother died. Shylah Silbery is believed to have managed to open the refrigerator door, and comforted herself with her favourite toys, after her 28-year-old mother Lauren Silbery died at their home near Wellington.
Lauren Silbery’s family called police when they became worried that they hadn’t heard from her. Shylah Silbery had to be coaxed to drag a table to the door and unlock it so investigators could enter the house, where they found Lauren Silbery’s dead body.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death, and police have so far refused to speculate. Shylah Silbery is now in hospital recovering from dehydration and diaper rash, but is expected to be fine.
