A 2-year-old Australian boy has survived after he was mauled by a rogue kangaroo. Zakkiah Galea was pinned to the ground by a rogue female eastern grey, and had to go to hospital afterwards for stitches.
The accident happened in Lake Cathie, south of Port Macquarie, and the kangaroo only let up its attack after Zakkiah’s father was able to fight it off. The boy had deep wounds to his chest, a gash on his leg and injuries to his face from the kangaroo’s claws.
Zakkiah Galea ultimately required more than a dozen stitches after the incident. It’s not clear why the kangaroo attacked him, but local authorities have issued a permit allowing the rogue animal to be killed.
