A tooth taken from the mouth of John Lennon in the 60’s has sold for £19,000 ($31,000) at auction. The molar was sold to a Canadian dentist and fetched nearly double its expected price of approximately £10,000.
The tooth was given to Lennon’s former housekeeper Dot Jarlett during the mid 60’s. Lennon asked her to dispose of it, but then suggested that she could keep it and give it to her daughter, who was a huge fan of The Beatles.
The tooth is too fragile to be DNA tested, but it has been formally verified as Lennon’s. It’s not clear whether the tooth will be kept in private, or whether it might go on display in the dentist’s office.
