US singer Andy Williams has told a concert audience that he has bladder cancer. Appearing at a pre-Christmas concert, the 83-year-old said that he hopes to recover in time to celebrate his 75th year in show business in 2012.
Earlier this year Williams had to miss a number of scheduled performance due to an unspecified medical problem. But the singer, best known for the likes of ‘Moon River’ and ‘The Christmas Song’, was still able to perform briefly for the audience after he had told them about his cancer. His appearance at the show was a surprise.
The cancer is reportedly in the lining of his bladder but it’s not known whether it has spread. If he has chemotherapy to deal with the tumour, surgeons could then decide to operate. He could then be back in action within a year.
