Taliban leader Mullah Omar has warned his own fighters to avoid killing civilians as they continue to fight against US soldiers and the Kabul government. Mullah Omar’s warning comes as fighting intensifies across Afghanistan.
Calling for the immediate withdrawal of all foreign troops from Afghanistan, Mullah Omar warned that the Taliban could not kill civilians without good reason, since to do so would not only be un-Islamic but would also risk turning Afghans against the group.
More than a thousand civilians are confirmed to have died in Afghanistan so far this year as a result of continuing violence between the Taliban and western forces. It’s believed that US military leaders have accepted that they will be in the country for many years yet, with a full withdrawal unlikely before 2015 at the earliest.
