Techincal error causes half an hour Oban firework show to go off all at once

Firework shows involve intricate timing and planning. But a show in Oban, Scotland this weekend went a little wrong after half an hour’s worth of fireworks went off all at once. The video, which you can see here, demonstrates the extent to which the resulting show was rather louder than many people had expected.

A local official had to announce the premature explosions to a gathered crowd, after the entire battery of fireworks caused barely one minute’s show. It was certainly loud, and bright, and pretty spectacular. But hundreds of people had turned up expecting a somewhat longer performance.

Oban’s firework display is often regarded as one of the biggest and best of the year. And in 2011 it was certainly one of the most memorable, even if this wasn’t necessarily for all the right reasons.
