West Yorkshire train halted after woman reports seeing a lion

A woman driving through the village of Shepley near Huddersfield on Sunday afternoon reported seeing a lion on the loose, leading to a police hunt and passengers on a nearby train being forced to wait for two hours until the all-clear was given.

The alert was sounded just after 3pm, but by 5pm it was decided that the search would be called off. However, police remain ready in case any further lion sightings are called in, even though no-one in the area has reported losing such an animal. The initial call from the concerned woman is believed to have been genuine.

Passengers at Shepley station had to wait before they could leave the train, due to concerns that a lion really might be on the loose. Reports of the lion sighting emerged on Twitter, and a Shepley Lion Twitter account has now emerged.
