Adidas suffers “sophisticated” cyber attack

Adidas, one of the world’s leading sportswear manufacturers, took several of its websites down earlier today after suffering what it described as a “sophisticated” and “criminal” cyber attack. The company says that there is so far no evidence that user information was in any way compromised.

The nature of the attack is not yet clear. Adidas says that in response to the attack, it has “bolstered” its security measures, although it has not gone into more detail about what this might entail. Via the Adidas News Stream website, the company gave a few details about the attack but says it is undertaking a forensic analysis of the attack. More information will presumably be forthcoming at some point.

The websites seem to have been offline for a few hours now, suggesting that the problem is taking some time to resolve. Security experts have already recommended that users consider changing their passwords if they use those passwords on other sites.
