Red Arrows pilot seriously injured after allegedly ejecting from jet while on the ground, parachute did not deploy

The Red Arrows pilot seriously injured in an accident at RAF Scampton allegedly ejected from his jet while on the ground, with the parachute failing to deploy. That’s according to local media. The BBC, meanwhile, has reported that a Red Arrow jet was later spotted with a badly damaged canopy.

The pilot was rushed to hospital with injuries described as serious. No further information about his condition has been released so far. There are rumours floating around on Twitter that the pilot has died, but these rumours can’t be confirmed and are quite probably the usual morbid death rumours that spread easiliy via social networking.

The Red Arrows have finished their flying season and were at RAF Scrampton for winter training. The accident comes just months after pilot Jon Egging was killed in an accident shortly after performing at an air show near Bournemouth.
