Three workers were trapped today when a building collapsed in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. At the time of writing two of the workers have been pulled out but one remains trapped.
The five-storey building at Brighton 5th Street suffered a suspected collapse at the fourth storey level, sending the other floors down in sympathy. Dogs are being brought in to help with the search.
The cause of the collapse is not immediately known. Rescue work is being slowed by concern that the building remains highly unstable and further collapse could occur at any moment if the wreckage is disturbed.
Update: Since this article was posted, the third worker has been pulled out alive.
