Loulou de la Falaise, one of the most famous figures in 20th century fashion, has died at the age of 63. The cause of death has not been revealed, but there have been rumours in recent months that she was suffering from cancer.
Loulou de la Falaise was born in France in the late 40s and modelled for Vogue in New York in the 60s before turning to design work. In 1972 she moved to Paris to work with Yves Saint Laurent. She later dismissed suggestions that she was Yves Saint Laurent’s muse, saying that she was far too hard-working to be so easily dismissed.
With Yves Saint Laurent, Loulou de la Falaise was a key figure in French fashion in the 70s, 80s and 90’s. After Yves Saint Laurent retired, Loulou de la Falaise created her own designs and owned two shops of her own in Paris.
