You might have noticed that today is 11/11/11, a date that won’t roll around again for another century. There probably hasn’t been such an awesome date since this time 900 years ago, when people were (possibly) celebrating 11/11/1111. But 11/11/11 means only one thing: Nigel Tufnel Day!
In case you’re unaware, Tufnel is the star of Rob Reiner’s classic 1984 spoof documentary film This is Spinal Tap. In a famous scene, he suggests putting an amp up to 11 – because 11 is “one louder”. There’s even a Nigel Tufnel Day Facebook group (log-in required), which has been getting increasingly busy as the big day approaches.
There don’t seem to be any particular activities planned for Nigel Tufnel Day. The film’s stars Harry Shearer and Christopher Guest (Tufnel himself) will be appearing in a Skype Q&A via the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and parties are reportedly planned in various countries, including the UK, the US, France and Germany. Other than that, though, it looks like 11/11/11 might just be another ordinary day.
