Lone man with ‘bomb’ hijacks ferry in Izmit, Turkey

A man claiming to have a bomb has hijacked a ferry in Izmit, Turkey. There are reportedly around 20 passengers onboard, and the man is demanding to speak to the media.

Police boats are shadowing the ferry as it sits off the coast of the town of Yalova in the Sea of Marmara, connecting the Black Sea to the Aegean. It’s not clear yet whether the man really has a bomb, or what his motivation might be.

Earlier reports suggested that there were four other hijackers with him, but it’s now believed that he’s acting alone. The total number of hostages is believed to be 20 passengers plus four members of the crew.
