It has been confirmed that Mexico’s Interior Secretary Francisco Blake Mora, a man once tipped as a future president of the country, has died following a helicopter crash in southern Mexico City.
Eight people, including Mora and the helicopter’s pilot, were killed in the accident, the cause of which is not yet clear. But as the country’s top official after President Felipe Calderon, Francisco Blake Mora is a high-profile loss just over a year after he took office.
A former lawyer, Francisco Blake Mora began his political career in the 90s in Tijuana, before serving as a federal congressman during the 2000s. He took his most recent position in the middle of 2010, and was on his way to a meeting in Morelos when the accident occurred.
