An 18-year-old write-in candidate has become mayor of the small town of Aredale, Iowa. Jeremy Minnier beat the incumbent Virgil Homer by 24-8, and will now take charge of the town.
Aredale only has around 70 inhabitants, but Minnier says he felt that the residents’ concerns weren’t being heard. The son of another former town mayor, Minnier aims to remain in his post for as long as possible, and says his priorities include dealing with septic problems and water supplies.
Jeremy Minnier takes office in early January and will be attending a local community college so that the doesn’t have to leave town during his initial four-year term.
