Russell Taylor and wife Odile to renew their vows in Normandy after 66 years

An elderly couple from Ohio are to travel to Normandy, France to renew their wedding vows, 66 years after they got married in the shadow of the Second World War. Russell Taylor, 94, and his wife Odile, 93, received the trip thanks to Jeremy Bloom’s Wish of a Lifetime and Brookdale Senior Living.

Russell served under General George S. Patton during the Normandy landings, and Patton’s grandson Benjamin Patton was on hand to help the couple make the trip back to France. Russell was part of Patton’s Third Army as they crossed Europe after arriving at Normandy.

It’s not clear when the trip will take place, but the couple have apparently decided not to do it during the winter, which means it might be summer 2012 before they finally get across the Atlantic.
