Twin handball referees Bernd and Reiner Methe killed in German car crash

Twin handball referees Bernd and Reiner Methe were killed in a car crash on Friday while they were on their way to referee to match in Freudenstadt, Germany. The 47-year-olds were killed when their car hit a truck.

The game, a Bundesliga match betwen HBW Balingen-Weilstetten and SC Magdeburg, was cancelled after the Methe brothers failed to arrive to officiate. Police subsequently confirmed that they were both dead.

Officials from the German Handball League have paid tribute to the brothers, who were popular and prominent figures in the German leagues. The postponed match is expected to be rescheduled shortly.
