Twin handball referees Bernd and Reiner Methe were killed in a car crash on Friday while they were on their way to referee to match in Freudenstadt, Germany. The 47-year-olds were killed when their car hit a truck.
The game, a Bundesliga match betwen HBW Balingen-Weilstetten and SC Magdeburg, was cancelled after the Methe brothers failed to arrive to officiate. Police subsequently confirmed that they were both dead.
