A group of ‘kids’ are being blamed for a rampage through Brooklyn’s Jewish Midwood section at the weekend. Cars were set on fire, and hate messages were sprayed on vehicles and walls in the early hours of Saturday morning.
One van had the letters KKK painted on the side, while other graffiti referred to the holocaust and various Jewish stereotypes. Cars were burning and property had been attacked, though no-one was injured in the rampge.
It’s not clear who was responsible for the attack but some witnesses report seeing a group of laughing kids running from the scene. New York’s mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has condemned the attacks.
Hopefully this is just a bunch of kids. There is no room for bigotry like this and it’s sickening that this would happen in 2011. It is a bit ironic though that anti semitism is occurring in Brooklyn or even New York City, an area with a large jewish influence and where Jewish people have contributed in some ways more than any other group to making the city what it is today.
