There are renewed fears that Israel could be considering a sudden military strike against Iran, after it emerged that Israeli officials have refused to guarantee that they would warn the US of any impending plans.
The US and its allies have stepped up their rhetoric against Iran in recent weeks, first accusing the regime of complicity in a bizarre plot against the Saudi ambassador to Washington, and then claiming that Iran is close to developing full-blown nuclear weaponry.
Until recently, it was assumed by many that the US was in the driving seat regarding any plans to attack Iran. But there are now real fears that Israel could decide to launch its own strike. Israel is widely believed to have its own nuclear arsenal, despite having never publicly confirmed this capability.
Any Israeli attack on Iran would likely push the world to the brink of a global war, especially if nuclear weapons were used. It seems the US is now getting jittery about Israeli plans, and might be unable to persuade Israeli authorities of the need for patience.
