One injured as man opens fire in UC Berkeley building

A man opened fire inside a UC Berkeley campus building on Tuesday, injuring one person before being arrested. The injured person is not believed to have life-threatening injuries.

It’s not clear exactly how the shooting happened, but a campus alert was issued at around 3pm after reports that someone had opened fire inside a building. It’s not known what type of weapon was used, or whether the victim was specifically targeted.

Protesters calling for a reduction in tuition fees were holding a demonstration at the time, about half a mile away in a campus plaza. There’s no indication so far that the shooting was in any way linked to the demonstration.

  1. Wrong… A man did not “open fire” in a building injuring one before being arrested. Rather, a man had a gun in a campus building, POLICE opened fire and wounded the man with the gun (who never shot a single bullet).
