Ai Weiwei and Zhao Zhao questioned over nude photos

Ai Weiwei and photographer Zhao Zhao are reportedly being investigated by the Chinese authorities over a series of photos. The authorities reportedly believe that the photos constitute pornography, the dissemination of which could be treated as a criminal offence.

One of the images, titled One Tiger Eight Breasts, shows Ai Weiwei naked and surrounded by four laughing naked women. But Weiwei’s supporters say that the investigation is politically motivated, coming as it does so soon after the artist was held by Chinese authorities for nearly three months.

The images apparently don’t feature sex, but are viewed as possible pornography due to their display of naked bodies. It’s unclear whether the Chinese authorities plan to take the investigation any further.
