An enterprising Michigan lawmaker is attempting to lure the famous Jack Daniels distillery away from its traditional home in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Michigan House Speaker Jase Bolger’s move comes in the wake of news that a possible tax dispute in Tennessee could hit the distillery.
A private individual has reportedly been pushing for a $10 tax on barrels of Jack Daniels whisky, and the move could reach a ballot early next year. It’s considered unlikely that it would be voted through, but that hasn’t stopped some in Michigan from trying to lure the famous company away from its homeland.
So far, there’s no word from Jack Daniels regarding the offer. Bolger has called on the company’s bosses to visit Michigan and see for themselves how the state could be a more friendly business environment than Tennessee.
