A teacher was attacked and hacked to death in a classroom while invigilating an exam in Ga-Mmasehlong village in South Africa’s Limpopo province. Guilford Shapo died later in hospital from wounds sustained in the machete attack.
Staff at the school were alerted to the attack when students, who were supposed to be taking an exam, ran screaming from the room. Guilford Shapo was the only male teacher at the school, which apparently meant that female teachers felt they could not tackle the attacker.
Guilford Shapo’s brother Harry Shapo has allegedly been accused of carrying out the attack and was arrested. It’s not clear what the motive might have been.
