Nurse arrested over fatal Sydney nursing home fire

A 35-year-old male nurse has been arrested in connection with a fire at a Sydney nursing home in which four residents died. The nurse, whose name has not been released to the media, was reportedly arrested shortly after the fire broke out.

Three elderly residents died at the scene and a fourth died later in hospital after the fire at the Quakers Hill Nursing Home early on Friday. About 50 other residents suffered some degree of smoke inhalation, although most are expected to make a full recovery.

The fire is said to be one of the worst at a nursing home in the country’s history. A total of around 100 residents had to be evacuated as fire crews fought to control the blaze. The precise circumstances of the fire have not been determined so far.
