Michigan Congressman Dale Kildee has denied allegations that he once sexually assaulted a relative. The claims are apparently set to be broadcast on a Michigan television channel, but Kildee insists that they are entirely false.
In a written statement released on Sunday, the 82-year-old Democrat – who announced his retirement earlier this year – said that the allegations are “scurrilous” and false. And he alleged that political opponents were seeking to use the false claims to try to win his open Congressional seat.
Dale Kildee announced in July that he would not be seeking re-election, and his nephew has since confirmed that he will seak to win the seat. The allegations against Dale Kildee are seen by some supporters as an attempt to smear the Kildee ‘brand’ ahead of next year’s elections.
