Former police captain Ray Lewis allegedly arrested at Occupy New York

Hundreds of people have been arrested during the Occupy protests over the past week, but in New York a former Philadelphia police captain was allegedly among them. It’s reported that Ray Lewis was allegedly among more than 300 protesters who were hauled away during Thursday’s ‘Day of Action’.

Speaking later, Ray Lewis allegedly noted that police should only be using force in certain circumstances. But he claimed that some police officers had complimented him. He says he is staying in New York a little while longer, and could even have Thanksgiving at the square.

There has been growing disquiet in recent days about the use of force against Occupy protesters. Last week, 84-year-old Dorli Rainey was allegedly pepper-sprayed at Occupy Seattle, while protesters at UC Davis were also pepper-sprayed. The Egyptian military recently defended their own treatment of Egyptian protesters by comparing themselves to US police covering the Occupy protests.
