Around 40 Israeli women have stripped off for a photo, to show their support for Egyptian blogger Aliaa Magda Elmahdy. The Israeli women, who didn’t show quite as much flesh as Elmahdy, were photographer behind signs reading ‘Love without Limits’ and ‘Homage to Aliaa Elmahdi. Sisters in Israel’.
Aliaa Magda Elmahdy caused controversy at the weekend when she posted naked photos of herself displaying full frontal nudity, as a demonstration against the continued repression of women and stifling of free speech in an Egypt that was supposed to be more free in the post-Mubarak era.
Since posting the photos, Elmahdy has received numerous death threats and some critics have accused her of providing ammunition for conservative Egyptian groups ahead of upcoming elections. But with protesters being killed once again in Tahrir Square, naked bloggers really aren’t the biggest problem for Egypt right now.
