New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced the arrest of a ‘lone wolf’ who was allegedly planning to launch bomb attacks against targets such as police cars and post offices. Jose Pimentel (some sources spell his name Pimental) of Washington Heights was allegedly planning to use car bombs.
According to Bloomberg, the suspect was allegedly motivated by resentment over US troop activity in Afghanistan and Iraq. Jose Pimentel had allegedly been tracked by the authorities since 2009.
Bloomberg claimed that this was the 14th attempted terror attack against New York targets since 9/11, and that success in preventing the attack demonstrates the effectiveness of anti-terrorism measures put in place over the past decade.
