More than a dozen CIA spies have reportedly been captured in Iran and Lebanon over the past six months, and US authorities are said to be increasingly concerned that the spies will be – or already have been – executed.
The spies are reportedly paid informants who have been providing information to the US about groups such as Hezbollah and the Iranian government. It’s not clear why so many seem to have been captured so quickly, but some analysts are suggesting that operational failures could have led to their covers being blown.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that in Lebanon, Hezbollah discovered the meeting place where agents were meeting, while in Iran the agents’ communication methods were discovered. All of which begs the question: is the CIA leaky?
