This one is so obvious, it’s amazing no-one saw it coming. Kohl’s, one of America’s leading department stores, has used Rebecca Black’s (in)famous song Friday for a Black Friday commercial.
Quite how the move will work for Kohl’s is unclear, but it should be the ultimate test of that phrase ‘there’s no such thing as bad publicity’. The ad has certainly got people talking, and will probably have plenty of folk whistling the song once again for the next few days.
So far, the video has made the top Twitter trends and has got people talking, so it’s probably doing its job. It’ll be interesting to see if Kohl’s gets an earnings boost from the video, assuming the world’s hasn’t fallen into hell before we get a chance to find out.
