Three Americans reportedly arrested in Tahrir Square demonstrations

Three Americans are reportedly among those arrested in Egypt’s Tahrir Square during the past few days’ protests. The trio are said to be studying at the American University in Cairo, and were allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails during the weekend’s violent scenes.

Local sources have claimed to identify the three Americans as, allegedly, Luke Gates, Derrik Sweeney and Greg Porter, although these identities have not been confirmed. American officials in Egypt say that they have heard the reports but are not in a position to confirm them.

The violent scenes that have erupted over the past few days in Egypt show no sign of abating today. There has been particular anger over claims by Donald Trump that Egypt is becoming a hotbed of radical Islam and that it was a mistake to get rid of Hosni Mubarak.
