Police in North Carolina are being urged to explain why a deaf, disabled senior citizen was stun-gunned to death while riding his bike. Roger Anthony, nicknamed ‘Rabbit’, died on Tuesday, having been found to be brain dead following the incident.
An officer was reportedly called out to reports of a man having fallen off his bike. When Anthony failed to stop when ordered to do so, he received the stun gun treatment. It’s not clear whether the officer realised Anthony was deaf.
Since 2001, it’s alleged that an estimated 508 people have died in America as a result of stun guns being used on them by police. That works out as almost one a week. The weapons are supposed to be non-lethal, but when used on people who are already suffering from health problems or old age the consequences can be severe.
