George Gallup Jr, who for more than half a century helped run the world famous polling organisation founded by his father, has died at the age of 81. He had been suffering from liver cancer.
Gallup had considered a career in religion before entering his father’s line of work. Religious issues remained close to his heart and his work often focused on tracking changes to America’s religious beliefs. Among other things, he helped set up the Princeton Religion Research Center.
The Gallup polling organisation remains one of the most popular and trusted in America, and its work is still cited regularly in discussions of political developments.
