Six feared dead after plane crashes in Arizona’s Superstition Mountains

The body of a child has been pulled from the wreckage of a small plane that crashed in Arizona’s Superstition Mountains, near Phoenix, on Wednesday evening. Authorities believe five more people also died in the accident.

A nearby webcam happened to capture the moment that the plane crashed. In the video, which you can see here, a small white light is seen in the sky. Around the 50-second mark, the light vanishes and there is a big flash, after which the light of a fire on the mountainside can be seen.

The plane had just taken off from nearby Falcon Field when it came down shortly after 6pm local time. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the pilot had just picked up his three children. A mechanic and another adult were also onboard. The mountainous terrain around the crash site has been hampering efforts to get emergency workers in place.
