Two French men have reportedly been abducted in Mali. While it’s not clear who is responsible, there have been concerns in recent months about groups affiliated with al-Qaida operating in the area.
The men were apparently stayed in at a hotel when gunmen broke in, tied up staff and abducted the foreigners. The men were reportedly staying at a hotel in Hombori while they worked on a nearby cement extraction project.
Military vehicles have now been seen in the area and while there has been no official confirmation of the incident, reports suggest that the government has ordered the entire area to be surrounded in an attempt to find the kidnappers.
