Looking for a new planet? Start with Titan

Scientist have ranked the most hospitable non-Earth planets for human life, and the winner is… Saturn’s moon Titan. But while Titan has come top of the Planetary Habitability Index, that doesn’t mean mankind is heading there any time soon.

After Titan, the next most hospitable planets are apparently Mars and Jupiter’s moon Europe. Meanwhile, a related Earth Similarity Index determined that the most Earth-like planet so far discovered is Gliese 581g, an exoplanet believed to be in the Libra constellation.

Titan, also known as Saturn VI, is the only natural satellite known to have a dense atmosphere. It’s believed to be made up of water ice and rocky material, and is commonly said to be the most planet-like moon in the solar system.
