NATO reportedly blows up 15 Pakistan soldiers at checkpoint

NATO forces have reportedly attacked a checkpoint in Pakistan, close to the Afghan border. At least 15 Pakistan soldiers were killed, and another 7 injured, in an incident which NATO now says is under investigation.

The attack happened in the Mohmand tribal region. The checkpoint had recently been set up in Salala village in an attempt to prevent Afghan Taliban forces from crossing into Pakistan. It’s not clear whether the ISAF/NATO helicopters that allegedly launched the attack did so from Afghan territory, or whether they had crossed into Pakistan.

Pakistan authorities have reportedly blocked NATO convoys for a week in response to the incident, and have demanded an apology. NATO says that it is aware of the reports but that it can’t comment until it has looked into the facts.
