John Neville, best known for playing the lead role in Terry Gilliam’s 1986 film The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, has died at the age of 86. The British actor died in a long-term care facility in Canada, with the cause of death apparently listed as Alzheimer’s disease.
Neville had a distinguished acting career on the British stage but arguably enjoyed his greatest successes after moving to Canada in the 70s. As well as performing, he became artistic director of the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, the Neptune Theatre in Halifax and the Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario.
In the 80s his role in The Adventures of Baron Munchausen brought him to the attention of a wider audience. He went on to play the important recurring role of the Well-Manicured Man in The X-Files, and also appeared in Queer as Folk and an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, playing Sir Isaac Newton in the latter.
